Milwaukee - For the first time in decades, major construction work broke ground on Tuesday along S. Cesar E. Chavez Drive and traffic flow from South to North bound and vice versa was allowed between W. Greenfield Ave. to W. National Ave. Engineers from Community Engineering & Building Services, LLC supervising the Chavez construction are now trying to device a plan to restrict some of the traffic flow. Traffic conjestion is slowing down the sewer line and water main repair in the middle of the street. Businesses along Chavez Drive will remain open during their regular hours through the duration of the construction.
Construction engineers are planning an impromptu meeting with the Chavez Drive Business Bid members to possibly have traffic flow at least one way. The street is so heavily damaged with pot holes, according to the engineers.
Last week, signs of Temperary No Parking Any Time had been posted earlier in the week and the parking meters, and bicycle racks had been removed for Monday's initial start of the $1.968 million dollar Cesar E. Chavez Business Improvement District #38 Streetscape Project.
More than 25 vehicles parked on the street were cited on Easter Sunday along Chavez Drive. On Tuesday, Alderman Willie Hines Jr. sent an email to Hispanic News Network U.S.A. who first reported about the No Parking Any Time citations, that he would look into it. Ald. Hines is also the President of the Milwaukee Common Council and further stated in the email, he and Alderman James Witkowiak were working together to address the No Parking citations issue.
The ticket fines for no parking start at $60.00 and is due immediately. The fine increases to a maximum fine of $90.00, if it is not paid within a certain date.
