Mexican Consulate worker from Chicago killed during a carjacking attempt in Mexico.

Naranjo, Guerrero, Mexico - On Friday, Jaime Almonte Borja, 42, the first Secretary for the Mexican Consul General in Chicago was lay to rest in his hometown of Naranjo. Borja was fatally shot three times when a group of men intercepted his Jetta in a carjacking attempt on New Year's Eve while driving to Naranjo, according to Juan Heriberto Salinas Altés, Public Safety Secretary in Guerrero. The homicide was reported in the municipality of Coyuca de Catalán and is under investigation.
Borda arrived in Mexico on December 20 to celebrate the Christmas, New Year's Day and his birthday with family.
Borda became first Secretary to the Mexican Consul of Chicago on March 2009. He began working at the consulate in 2006.
He worked in the Department of Protection and helped coordinate the Consulate's mobil services that travel within Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin to provide services to Mexican immigrants needing documents, passports, Matricula Consular (ID's) and other legal papers.
Borda had previously worked for the Mexican Consulate in Costa Rica before arriving in Chicago.
