Atizapán de Zaragosa, Mexico, Mexico - On Sunday, the Mexican Federal Police announced the arrested of Jesus Enrique Rejón Aguilar, aka, "El Mamito," one of the Zetas founders and third in command of the criminal organization. Aguilar was captured in city of Atizapán de Zaragosa in the State of Mexico along with Pedro Ortega Herrera, 32.
Aguilar is connected to the murder of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Agent Jaime Zapata on February 14, 2011. Zapata was killed while traveling to Mexico from Monterrey through Santa Maria, San Luis Potosi. Zapata's partner and driver was wounded in the deadly attack of their armour vehicle by Zetas. Two Zeta vehicles forced Zapata and his partner off the highway. Both ICE agents were unarmed.
The U.S.DEA had offered a $5 million dollar reward for information leading to the arrests of the Zeta attackers.
Aguilar enlisted in the Mexican Army on April 3, 1993, in1996, he was assigned to a Special Air Force Task unit and then, in 1997 he began working as a Mexican federal agent "C" for the Mexico's Attorney General's Office. Aguilar deserted in 1999. A month after he deserted, Aguilar joined the newly formed Zeta criminal organization by invitation of Arturo Guzmán Decenas, aka, "El Z1" who made up a group of 14 suspects that founded Los Zetas. Los Zetas served as the armed security for the Gulf Cartel before splitting up years later and igniting a drug war between them to gain control of the multimillion drug routes to the Mexico and U.S. border.
