Garden Grove, California - On Wednesday, Catherine Kieu Becker, 48, a real estate broker was charged by Orange County District Attorney's Office with multiple felony counts of false imprisonment, torture and aggravated mayhem, which carries a maximum life sentence, including causing great bodily harm with a dangerous weapon, administering a drug with intent to commit a felony and poisoning. Becker allegedly cut off her 51-year-old husband's penis over a divorce and an argument. Prosecutors speculated in court, the couple had argued over "friends staying at the residence," which later resulted with the castration.
She appeared in court on Wednesday, but Becker's arraignment was rescheduled for July 22 and is currently being held at the Orange County jail. Becker is facing life in prison with the possibility of parole, if convicted on all counts.
The criminal complaint states, on Monday, Becker added an unknown drug to her husband's food knocking him out after an argument. Her husband later woke up tied to the bed and unable to move or free himself.
Becker then castrated her husband in bed and disposed of the penis in the garbage disposal. Afterwards, around 9:00 p.m., she called 911 and requested medical assistance.
When firefighters and police arrived, they found Becker's husband in bed unconcious bleeding. Firefighters recovered parts of the husband's penis inside the garbage disposal. Becker told police that he "deserved it," according to the criminal complaint.
Garden Grove Police Lt. Jeff Nightengale confirmed, investigators recovered a knife and rope at the crime scene. No information was released, if the garbage disposal was removed for evidence.
The couple were married 2009 and had been separated since April after her husband filed for divorce citing "irreconcilable differences," according to court records.
Becker's husband remains in stable condition at the Irvine Medical Center in the University of California.
A similar case in Manassas, Virginia, in June 1993 Lorena Bobbitt of Bucay, Ecuador severed her husband John Wayne Bobbitt's penis with a knife for being unfaithful, physically abusing her, spousal rape and not making her reach her climax (orgasm) during sex, according to court records. Doctors were able to reattach it.
After seven hours of deliberations a jury found Lorena not guilty due to insanity.
In 1995, both Lorena and John W. Bobbitt were granted a divorce.
