Arizona Pinal County Sheriff Babeu Sued By Ex-boyfriend For $1 Million

Congressional bid draws setback after Sheriff Babeu admitted to being gay.

Florence, Arizona - On Monday, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, 43, received a copy of a lawsuit filed by his former boyfriend José Orozco, according to court records. Orozco, 34, is suing both Babeu and Pinal County. He claimed that Sheriff Babeu had threaten him with deportation, if he revealed their previous gay relationship. Babeu feared that exposing a gay relationship could have consequences for his aspiration to become the next congressman for the 4th District.
Sheriff Babeu was forced to admit that he was gay. His candidacy for Congress has drawn opposition by allegations of using his position to keep Orozco from exposing their relationship. Babeu has denied that he threaten Orozco with deportation.
Orozco admitted to working in Babeu's Congressional campaign bid and setting up the campaign's computer system. Orozco a Mexican national says, he is legally in the U.S., but his visa prevents him from working.
Babeu removed Orozco from the campaign staff.
