Vazquez, A Hit-and-Run Victim Succumbed To Injuries And Passed Away In Milwaukee

Driver in hit-and-run that claimed the life of a 25-year-old victim is being sought by police.

Milwaukee - Last Thursday, Gilbert L. Vazquez Jr., 25, died after suffering blunt force trauma to the head during a hit-and-run incident on May 26. Vazquez Jr. was crossing the street around 3:30 a.m. near the 1600 block of W. Mitchell St. when a four door silver vehicle struck him and then kept going without stopping, according to Milwaukee police.
Police are looking for a 1992 Honda Accord 4-door, gold, with license plate number 703-RYW from Wisconsin. Police haven't released any information about the driver. Police say the vehicle could have damage to the front right side fender, including windshield damage.
Vazquez Jr. was taken to Froedtert Hospital and remained in coma. He was placed on life supports, but succumbed to injuries and passed away on Thursday, according to his mother Laura Manriquez, a well known community activist in the predominately Hispanic community.

Visitation is scheduled from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6th at the Hephatha Lutheran Church, 1720 W. Locust St. Final resting place for Vazquez Jr. will be on Thursday at 11 a.m., St. Adalbert & Holy Trinity Cemetery, 3801 S. 6th St. in Milwaukee.
No procession will take place, family is asking people attending to just meet at Block 16, which is near the S. 13th Street entrance.
