Racine, WI - On Sunday, La Fiesta Mexicana in Racine ended with a historical aspect that included a special tribute to local bands and its members that have dedicated their life long careers to continue their Tejano music style trend in the state. A tribute was also dedicated to those Tejano all stars that have passed away in the last three years, but have left their legacy for keeping the unique Tejano music alive.
The special recognition in memorandum went to José Guadalupe Morales of Racine; Manuel Rivas of Milwaukee; Sammy and Manuel Avila of Milwaukee; Tommy Lugo of Chicago and others who have passed away, but had dedicated their lives and careers to promoting and playing Tejano music.
This year's festival also included Mexican bands and other groups, especially Tejano and Mexican DJ's at Racine's lakefront Festival Park.
The festival sponsors included the Urban League of Racine/Kenosha, the Emmaus Lutheran Church and the Hispanic Community & Resource Center of Racine, which created a partnership to present and continue the yearly Fiesta Mexicana under new management at the lakefront. The two day event offered food vendors, cultural events and a variety music that included Peruvian and Salsa music at the festival grounds.
Los Super Cats band and Victoria y su Onda Tejana closed this year's festival, which drew thousands to the two day event. No official or estimated attendance numbers have been released by the organizers.
