Karsten And Rubio Get 6 Months Each For El Rey Arson Case

Milwaukee, WI - On Wednesday, both Miguel Rubio, 18, and Alexander Karsten, 17, of Milwaukee were sentenced to 6 months each in the House of Corrections (HOC) with huber privileges, can get out to work and must return back to the HOC. They will also have to pay $17,127.94 in restitution, received three years probation each and must do 100 hours of community service each as well, according to court records.
They pled guilty each to one felony count of arson for the early January El Rey Family Market fire at the 5200 block of W. Oklahoma Ave. Karsten was charged as an adult.
Both suspects were caught on video surveillance cameras in the front of the store before the blaze was started.
The blaze caused more than $300,000 in food and $400,000 in building damages. The store was closed for more than two weeks.
