Milwaukee, WI - Dontre Hamilton,  31, a homeless man with a mental illness was shot 10 times at Red Arrow Park from 10 feet away as he stood holding a baton and watched a Milwaukee cop named "Chris" pull his gun to fatally shoot him without saying a word, according to Kelly R. Brandmeyer, a barista at Starbucks and witness of the killing on April 30. Several other Starbucks workers also witnessed that Hamilton was ten feet away from Officer Chris before he was killed, Brandmeyer stated.
Hamilton's fate, he was only sleeping near the Starbucks business and two other officers had talked to him previously and allowed him to stay there. He was doing nothing illegal by sleeping under the Red Arrow monument.
Brandmeyer's account of what happened contradicts Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn statement that Hamilton beat Officer Chris with the baton and was forced to fatally shoot the victim in self-defense because of a violent situation. "The suspect became combative as the officer investigated. The officer defended himself with his baton, however the suspect gained control of the baton and began to strike the officer in the head. The officer, under attack, fired his handgun at the suspect, striking him," a Milwaukee Police Department press release reported.
Brandmeyer wrote her statement in the Occupy Riverwest paper dated May 3. Link:  http://alturl.com/86eh9
