Tegucigalpa, Honduras - On Wednesday, Marlon Yasir Pastor Mateo, 9, the Charrito de Oro from Honduras who has gained millions of fans from around the world for singing Mexican norteño songs in a Mariachi suit while in crutches was operated for his early childhood disability. Marlon was admitted to the Hospital Escuela Universitaria (HEU) in Tegucigalpa on Monday. He had a two-hour successful operation by Dr. Guillermo Bermudes on Wednesday and will take at least two weeks to recover.
Paola Acosta, the spokesperson for HEU told HCH TV News, that Marlon was suffering from rigid tendon retraction on both legs, which prevented Marlon from stretching his legs and forced him to use crutches. The operation will allow for the tendons to gradually stretch by adding weights. This is Marlon's 14th operation and he will need several other operations.
The other operations are expected to be done in the U.S. and a humanitarian visa is in the works to allow Marlon and his mother Mirna León to enter the U.S for the operations, according to Mayra Villarreal, who administrates the Marlon Yasir Honduras Facebook page for Marlon.
